Nintendo Direct Overview | February 2021

The first official Nintendo Direct of the year has come and gone and it was a fifty-minute presentation showcasing some of the games that will be releasing on Nintendo's latest (and quite possibly greatest) console in the first half of 2021. Though there were plenty announced that will arrive well after that timeframe. Although there a few Direct Mini Showcases in-between, we have not had a full-fledged Nintendo Direct since September of 2019 and though there have been plenty of indie games and Wii-U ports releasing on the Switch, there has been a lack of real and original first part titles on the system. Before we dive into this list, let's make one thing clear right off the bat. No, there is no news about Breath of the Wild 2. And based on what was said during the release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the team doesn't seem quite ready to show anything just yet. However, there will be more news to come about the game later this year. With that said, let's get to the good stuff, here are all the games showcased during the February Nintendo Direct:

Along with the new game announcements, we also got some news on available games such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate. To start off, Mythra and Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be joining Smash. And for players looking to spice up their island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a free update next week will add a plethora of Mario-themed items to the game. Game of the Year nominee, Hades will finally be getting a physical release on the Nintendo Switch which will come with the soundtrack and the compendium. There was also an Age of Calamity Expansion Pass that was announced that costs $20 and comes with content in similar waves as Breath of the Wild.

Onto the new games, from Square Enix comes another wildly titled RPG, this one called Triangle Strategy, the demo for the game is now live on the eShop. The biggest announcement of the event, to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword HD was revealed. The game will feature both motion controls, like on the Wii, and more traditional controls using analog sticks to attack. Skyward Sword HD is available for pre-order now. To wrap up there was the reveal of Splatoon 3, coming out sometime in 2022. That's all we know about that for now.

Lastly, some last-minute news that broke after the event was that the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection is not a Nintendo Switch exclusive and will also be releasing on other systems.
